LUVCAT IS ON REPEAT

The Cure, My Chemical Romance, Frank Sinatra: Liverpool’s finest Luvcat dives into the tracks that inspired her debut album, Vicious Delicious.

Luvcat Is On Repeat

Vicious Delicious, the title of Liverpudlian enigma Luvcat’s debut album, feels oh so suitable. There’s a darkness brooding beneath her theatrical sound that traverses dusty desert rock, moody indie and cinematic alt pop. She’s a gloriously unreliable narrator, depicting her own character so vividly and wildly that you can’t help but be stuck in her vibrant web of broken love stories and misplaced affections.

It’s been barely 18 months since Luvcat was introduced to us, but today (31 October), as she releases her excellent debut album, she’s among the hottest rising artists in Britain. Boasting viral singles like “He’s My Man” and Matador” as well as new gems like ballad “Alien” and gorgeous closer “Bad Books”, it feels like an important record in the current guitar music renaissance in the UK; brimming with big, bold choruses, poetic, vivid lyricism and fluid, fierce vocal performances. But who inspired it? What influences the singular vision of Luvcat? Wonderland find out in our latest On Repeat.

Luvcat is On Repeat…

The Cure – “The Lovecats”

My namesake. A slinky, skulking, sexy song.

Tom Waits – “Alice”

A song inspired by my favourite book, Alice in Wonderland. It has some of the most intoxicating lyrics I’ve ever heard.

Leonard Cohen – “Dance Me to the End of Love”

This song takes you through all the stages of love from the mad passionate beginnings, to the chapel, to the hospital, to the grave.

Echo & The Bunnymen – “The Killing Moon”

Liverpool’s best band. I love that the last lyrics of this song came to Ian in a dream.

Baxter Drury – “Cocaine Man”

I love listening to this when I’m getting dolled up for a date.

My Chemical Romance – “Helena”

This song & video truly captivated my nine year old gothic heart. And still does.

Counting Crows – “A Long December”

This song came on the radio as I was born. I listen only once a year on my birthday. It’s a beautiful song.

Fleetwood Mac – “Beautiful Child”

I adore witchy Stevie. And this song about falling for an older, elusive man.

 Frank Sinatra – “That’s Life”

The first time I went viral was CCTV footage of me dancing to this song with an old flame and a wine glass swaying in my hand. I think Frank would like that.
