New Soil’s groundbreaking partnership with Women in Jazz is set to illuminate and celebrate the music and stories of women within the jazz community. By passionately championing and nurturing exceptional talent through radio, live events, and mentoring, this initiative will inspire more women to pursue fulfilling careers in music, beginning with the release of Rebecca Vasmant’s remarkable new EP, which perfectly encapsulates the partnership’s vision.
In this dazzling new EP, Glasgow-based Rebecca Vasmant unveils two expansive and mesmerising dance tracks, collaborating with a diverse range of local musicians, including the soulful vocalist Emilie Boyd and the innovative pianist-composer Sonedo. Staying true to her distinctive artistic style, “Better Than Before” and “Come Together” overflow with vibrant synergy and sweeping melodies. On “Better Than Before”, Vasmant, Boyd, and Sonedo seamlessly blend their talents to create a captivating jazz instrumental, enriched by Boyd’s soaring, ethereal vocals, delivering an irresistibly infectious, head-nodding track. “Come Together” heightens the atmosphere further, offering a radiant, intricately crafted instrumental that serves as the perfect backdrop for Ella Knight’s evocative spoken-word delivery and rich vocal palette.
As a prominent figure in the UK’s dynamic and ever-evolving jazz scene, Rebecca reflects on the profound creative inspirations behind these tracks and emphasises the significance of partnerships, reflecting “Better Than Before tells a story of self love, growth, giving space to create and creating space for everyone. It’s about collaboration, supporting each other, community and really rooting for ourselves and others.”
