Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty is deep into its third season. And if you’re chronically online, you might have noticed the internet crushing hard for Conrad’s watch. And there’s a likeness to 2020’s Normal People-induced silver chain hysteria.

Conrad’s timepiece has been there for the season’s major scenes, from ticking away during his and Belly’s steamy, peach-munching moment in the fan-revered episode 5, to glinting as he drove through the fields of Cousins Beach, eyes locked on his lover as if she were the sun itself.

After a little bit of sleuthing, it looks like the watch in question is a vintage Omega Constellation. But it gets better; this appears to be one of the earlier models, produced from the 1950s until the mid 1970s, with a sought after ‘Pie Pan’ dial (a nickname it earned thanks its likeness to an upturned pie dish). It’s worn on a leather strap. It’s subtle, unexpected, and quietly reveals a lot about his character.

Clearly this is a guy with a taste for the classics. The Constellation was one of the earlier Omegas to feature chronometer movements and balances precision timekeeping and accuracy with elevated design really well. And in the case of Conrad, it leaves us with even more questions. How did he get this watch? Was it inherited, or is he a secret watch guy? Either way, it checks out his rich kid upbringing.

And while watch nerds have been seduced by vintage Omegas for decades, the steamy pull of Conrad’s kettle goes beyond horology. The parallels between the watch and Connell’s chain in Normal People are definitely there. They’re both small, sexy Easter eggs worn in their series’ love-infused scenes. And beyond having chokehold-inducing power, they hint at the complex personalities of their owner.

By the way, some collectors refer to the Omega Constellation as a “Connie”. As we well know by now, nothing is a coincidence in a Jenny Han-created universe. Do with that what you will.
