Merging performative dance and pensive musicality, Zach Tabori unveils his dazzling ballet collaborative visual and closing track from his new album, “End of the World”.
A polymathic presence who seeks creative exploration in a variety of formats, producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Zach Tabori is quietly building an excellent discography. A member of Dweezil Zappa’s band and with songwriting credits for Téo and Jaden Smith, Tabori has long shown the eclectic nature of his musicality — augmented by the release of his new album.
Attack of the Clout Chasers is a sprawling, scintillating body of music that is unafraid to be unique. Tabori traverses genre effortlessly, building a sonic world that twists and turns through a mosaic of emotion and mood. Proving a stand out from the track-list, the closing cut “End of the World” is one of the quieter moments of the record, a climatic mediation of melancholy and introspection.
To shine a further light on the final track, Tabori has created a stunning collaborative ballet piece to accompany it. Set against the musical maverick’s original composition, the ballet features direction and co-choreography from former dancer Stephanie Gotch and co-choreography and performance from former American Ballet Theatre soloist Gabe Stone Shayer, as well as performance from New York City Ballet principal Indiana Woodward and American Ballet Theatre’s Zimmi Coker.
It’s a truly gripping piece of work that merges creative arts succinctly and emotionally, depicting a mirroring odyssey of grief and despair, hope and rebirth. A collaboration of feeling and fervour, all parties involved reach new heights.
Offering an inner gaze into his creative process, Tabori tells Wonderland: “In the post-COVID world, it’s not difficult to feel like everything is turning into a complete shitshow. While the rest of the “Clout Chasers” record attempts to grapple with this theme in a more aggressive manner, I wanted to take a risk and embrace the somber, melancholic moments that many of us feel in moments of panic that are often the hardest to express. I’ve always been a fan of ballet, and when Shayer and Gotch approached me to collaborate, I was thrilled with the opportunity. With their dance, they have illuminated the themes of the music in so many more ways than I ever could have imagined! I love it”.
