Mura has turned to solo production to explore a different facet of himself after collaborating in Aldo, The Band alongside his brother André, a project that had the opportunity to open for Radiohead in Brazil in 2018. His new work is much more intimate and experimental, showcasing the fruits of his dedicated study of diverse musical styles and acts from around the world, along with his psychedelic experiences and a personal healing journey with a weird Brazilian shaman.
Made almost entirely in the intimate confines of Mura’s personal studio, “The Limited Repetition of Pleasure” is 11 tracks long, and it is absolutely Jam-packed with flavorful and diverse sounds from start to finish. Futuristic synths, primal rhythms, and ethereal ambiance samples make up a solid chunk of the album’s lingo, and it communicates both an unrushed dynamism and a precise, no-frills meditative quality that transfixes and hypnotizes in the blink of an eye.
Mura draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists, with Brian Eno’s influence shining through in his sound. “The Limited Repetition of Pleasure” also carries the DNA of Flying Lotus, The Chemical Brothers, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and many more, seamlessly woven into its sonic fabric. But beyond the musical, mind-expanding literature is also an important part of the album, and if you’re familiar with his work, you’ll easily guess that Alan Watts made quite an impact in what Heal Mura is trying to convey with sounds and samples.
