It’s this week’s Wonderlist: Lucy Dacus’ sublime return, Jungle close a chapter in vibrant style, and John Glacier and Sampha’s piercing collaboration!
Lucy Dacus – “Ankles”
boygenius favourite Lucy Dacus has shared news of a long-awaited fourth studio album, Forever Is A Feeling, which is set to be shared in late March. Dacus has unveiled a duo of singles from the record, “Limerence” and “Ankles”, the latter of which is a cinematic and heartfelt offering that comes accompanied by a quite hilarious video.
Jungle – “Keep Me Satisfied”
Another genuinely joyous offering full of life and vibrancy, Jungle close their current artistic chapter with a gregarious gem. “Keep Me Satisfied” is warm and catchy, brimming with the duo’s signature production nuance and some noteworthy vocal cadences.
John Glacier ft. Sampha – “Ocean Steppin’”
Underground enigma John Glacier is quietly becoming one of the most potent acts in music. Following a busy 2024, her new collaborative effort with Sampha, “Ocean Steppin’”, is a swirling and serene single that cuts deep yet floats lightly. Glacier’s long awaited debut album, Like A Ribbon, will finally be revealed on Valentines Day.
Bad Gyal ft. Trueno – “Angelito”
Spanish-Catalan high flyer Bad Gyal is back with another vivacious and entertaining single, “Angelito”. Enlisting Argentinian rapper Trueno for a slick vocal contribution, Bad Gyal’s new one is lively and fearless Reggaeton banger.
Samia – “Bovine Excision”
Indie folk singer-songwriter Samia has announced that her third album, Bloodless, is coming in late April. A new teaser has been unleashed, “Bovine Excision” a flavourful, rousing and heartfelt opus that flaunts Samia’s unique songsmithery and incandescent charm.
Maribou State ft. Andreya Triana – “All I Need”
Highly acclaimed soul-electronica duo Maribou State are releasing their new album, Hallucinating Love, on the last day of January. “All I Need”, the third single plucked from the forthcoming LP, is the best yet, with some luscious grooves, piercing organs and a fantastic contribution from MOBO nominated vocalist Andreya Triana.
Victoria Canal – “Vauxhall”
Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Victoria Canal has releases her cascading and intimate debut album Slowly, It Dawns via Parlophone Records. The lead single, “Vauxhall” is especially sublime, dreamy and delicate, with Canal musing through the direction of the next phase of her adult life.
Saya Gray – “LIE DOWN“
As her debut album approaches, Saya Gray becomes ever more peerless. “LIE DOWN” is the third single taken from SAYA, which will be unveiled on 21st February via Dirty hit, and makes it three from three. Bright, unpredictable and anthemic, the track Grey at her rousing and idiosyncratic best.
Florist – “Have Heaven”
Minimalist folk at its best, New York quartet Florist subtly stun with their gorgeous new single “Have Heaven”. A single from a forthcoming album, Jellywish due 4th April, the cut is bittersweet and beautifully haunting, with a visceral vocal performance from singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter Emily Sprague.
Sam Akpro – “Evenfall”
Broody, bold and bohemian, Peckham auteur Sam Akpro announces his debut album in style with the release of new single “Evenfall”. Accompanied by a dreamy and dreary visual, the track is gothic and pointed, a head-spinning haven of longing glances and byronic heroism.
Rose Gray – Louder, Please
Artistic and hedonistic, Rose Gray’s debut album Louder, Please is an ode to London and to the club culture that shaped her sound and character. Eclectic in style, it’s a dance-laden project with full of pop flavour, and one for the pres and afters alike.
p-rallel ft. Dom Valentino – “Fooling Me Twice”
West London super-producer p-rallel makes his long-awaited return to the fray with this dance-haven cut. “Fooling Me Twice” enlists the nuance of Dom Valentino, and is shared via the label head’s own new imprint Nevermind Recordings. It’s a bright and daring production, full of vibrance and superb musicianship.
Chy Cartier – “Not The One”
Rising rapper Chu Cartier is back with her first offering of the year, “Not The One”. Ominous instrumentation and snappy bars are on show across the striking track, as Cartier’s style progresses ever further into her own late.
KiLLOWEN ft. Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn – “cook & effy”
West London’s KiLLOWEN returns with his signature Garage-Rap vibes on new single “cook & effy”. A notable collaboration with Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn marks KiLLO’s first release of the year ahead of his recently announced UK tour which begins in March. KiLLO offers full transparency on ‘cook & effy’, which he first teased during his Reading Festival performance last year.
Cruel Sister – “XOXO”
A complex and captivating merging of styles, Cruel Sister’s heavy-hitting new single is a statement of intent. Commanded by the distorted electric guitars that are fiery and unforgiving, the artist’s punk-tinged energy brings a hectic and swirling atmosphere.
Aitch x Bou – “Raving In The Studio”
Mancunian rapper Aitch takes a stylistic turn into DnB, collaborating with hotly tipped fellow Manchester-based producer Bou. “Raving In The Studio” samples the Gorillaz classic “Feel Good Inc.”, and boasts some slick beat-wizardry from Bou and the usual cheek-laden charisma from Aitch.
Julien Baker & TORRES – “Sugar In The Tank”
A second boygenius alum outing in this week’s list, Julien Baker’s decadent country-adjacent collaboration with TORRES is a joy to hear. A debut collaborative effort from the pair, “Sugar In The Tank” is all big-chorus’ and heartfelt harmonies, a truly giving and gorgeous listen.
ONEFOUR ft Abra Cadabra – “MOVIE”
Australia’s hottest rap collective, ONEFOUR, continues an explosive run of form with their new one “MOVIE”, featuring the return of North London trailblazer Abra Cadabra. From Mount Druitt to Tottenham, the two connect on an intoxicating cut bursting with drill nostalgia – sharp percussion, woozy 808s and a signature, vintage sample set pace as they trade infectious flows and razor-sharp bars. A clear depiction of the roads emerges, with inner-city pressures and nocturnal influences quickly threatening to disrupt the collective’s path to success and their visions to create real impact and infrastructure beyond music.
Rosa Brunello – “Uno Punto Uno”
A truly transformative 12-month programme and initiative has been announced; The Year of Women In Jazz will incudle mentorship, talks and new music once a month. The first of 12 singles releases throughout the year comes from sensational Italian bass player and composer, Rosa Brunello. “Uno Punto Uno” is a mediative and marauding cut with flashes of experimentalist electronica.
Michi – “Snoobie”
Dusty, rich and class-laden, the album-announcing single from Stones Throw signee Michi is a colourful and creamy escapade into soul and R&B. The singer-songwriter’s vocal performance is flawless, whilst the deft grooves of the smooth-as-silk instrumental are undeniable.
Marnz Malone ft. KayMuni – “I Hate January”
Rising UK rapper Marnz Malone is fully entering the scene with his forthcoming mixtape “Sabr”. He shares an emotional and important single with fellow emerging MC KayMuni, “I Hate January”, centred around increasing mental health issues with men in prison.
Nao – “Happy People”
Vastly talented singer-songwriter Nao shares the fourth single from her upcoming fourth album, Jupiter, set for release 21st February. The new track, “Happy People”, is uplifting and anthemic bliss, an ode to the people around her whom she holds most dear.
Reuben Aziz – “Stick Around”
Alongside a deluxe edition of his impressive debut project “how did we end up here”, London riser Reuben Aziz shares a focus single and accompanying video for “Stick Around”. The track is soulful and immersive, with Aziz’s vocals sounding as sharp and melodic as ever.
Arthur Hill – “Late For The Reservation”
London singer-songwriter Arthur Hill shares his best track yet on route to sharing his debut EP, “In The Middle of Somewhere”, on Valentines Day. “Late For The Reservation” is a disco pop hit, with some smashing vocals and head-bopping grooves.
Oscar Anton – “Brown Eyes”
One of the most exciting talents emerging from Paris right now, producer and vocalist Oscar Anton continues to rise with his intimate new cut “Brown Eyes”. In a tender love letter to passion and intimacy, Anton illustrates the kind of love that intensifies the deeper he explores, reflecting on his own experiences and vulnerability to truly open up.
