TIME ON SIDE

Lefties, you’re in luck. The all-new left-handed Luminor Destro Otto Giorni combines Panerai’s military legacy with modern design and functionality.

When you think about wearing a watch, most of us are conditioned to wearing it on our right wrists. Why? Because that’s what the annals of history have dictated, amongst a majority of right-handers. But even a lefty such as myself has co-opted such a tradition.

Needless to say, the comfort of a watch doesn’t fit everyone’s right arm. To mark such a shift, and to celebrate their bold military history, a watch brand synonymous with the frogmen of the Italian navy, Panerai, pay tribute to an icon in their repertoire: the Luminor Destro Otto Giorni (PAM01655 for those who prefer to speak code). Co-opting the military-grade precision of the brand’s history, with an updated sleek, modern design, makes for the perfect timepiece for the lefty modern enthusiasts amongst you.

Call it a left-handed compliment on the wrist, this updated 44mm offering, now with the crown on the opposite side of the case, comes in a little smaller than its original legend, which first appeared in the 1960s. Designed by the manufacturer’s founder, Giuseppe Panerai, Panerai carved out its unique vision with the implementation of a crown guard – the protective material you’ll notice around the crown – to keep any water at bay.

Such attention to detail has allowed the model to become a staple in any avid diver’s collection today, paired with a mammoth 8-day power reserve. Peek into the magical mechanics of the watch with a sapphire crystal caseback, exposing a manual-winding structure, a nod to the original model.
