Last April, multi-hyphenated artist Donald Glover set the internet in hysterics after announcing that he would be retiring his persona Childish Gambino in 2024. The news came after he made a surprise appearance at this year’s Coachella, and now we finally have a date for when the new and final project from the five-time Grammy winner will be hitting streaming platforms — July 19th. Mark your calendars.
Bando Stone & The New World will also serve as the soundtrack and name for Donald Glover’s new original motion picture, teased yesterday on his personal Instagram. In the film, Glover stars as the main character, navigating a classic last-survivor-in-an-empty-world scenario until he meets a mother and her son. Together, they make their way through a dystopian society while struggling for survival — think monstrous animals and laser rays, with a layer of cheeky and heartfelt dialogue.
Bando Stone & The New World is Childish Gambino’s fifth studio album, and we already have a taste of what’s coming our way with the release of “Lithonia,” the first single from the rapper’s final chapter, out now.
